Our educators are experiencing the most challenging year of their careers, and new data warns of the consequences.
During the 2020-2021 school year in a national survey by YouGov of 1,059 educators. Burnout is not uncommon among educators, CareersCast.com rated teaching as number 4 on the most stressful jobs list, but of those 1,059 educators surveyed 46% reported that they are considering leaving the field.
That is over 5X the average rate of educator attrition.
- The NEA survey of 2,690 members in 2021 found that 32% of respondents said the pandemic has led them to plan to leave the profession earlier than they anticipated.
- EdWeek Research Center survey, 2021 found 54% are somewhat likely or very likely to leave teaching in the next two years.
- According to a RAND survey, 2021 a much higher proportion of teachers report job-related stress and depression than the general adult population.
How do we keep the consequences of this past year from leaving us with empty classrooms?
